16th Penny Pinching Party

Tuesday, January 12, 2010

Thank you to everyone who participated in my Penny Pinching Party last week. I am overwhelmed at all of the creativity you have! Here are some of my favorites:
(If I haven't been featuring your links, check to see if you are posting a link back to my party from your post, not just your sidebar.)

Treasures for Tots has tons of creative posts, but this is one of my favorite so far. She used socks for sleeves!

I just love up-cycling (re-purposing something) because it is giving new life to something that otherwise would end up in a land fill. Sometimes I just feel like there is so much STUFF out there, why make more when you can up-cycle. I love what Bird Crafts did with this sweater that was accidentally shrunk.
(You will have to go to her blog to see how she transformed it ;-)

Keeping it Simple posted a tutorial on how to make this Menu Planner. Cooking more often and being organized about planning my dinners is one of my goals for this year, so I had to feature this great idea.

Cloche's are very popular in the blog world right now and I have seen people making them out of lots of different things. Blue Creek Home bought some Ferrero Rocher Chocolates and then used the container to make her cloche. Another great up-cycling project!

Quarry Orchard turned a dictionary into wallpaper. I have been noticing a lot of bloggers using old books and turing them into different things, but this is the most ambitious project yet! I wonder if I did this in my kid's rooms, if they would memorize the dictionary??? Maybe a bathroom would be a good place for a dictionary wall.

Domestically Speaking shows us how to make cute knob hangers like the ones at Pottery Barn Kids.

I love using the online classifieds to find normally very expensive items for a fraction of the price. Craigslist and local classifieds are great when you know exactly what you want and are willing to be patient. Eventually almost anything you want will be posted, but you have to act quick when it is. That is why I love Random Anny . Com's post about her Pier One mirror. She scored this $150 mirror for $20 on craigslist and used some creativity to cover a crack.
