Why I created this blog:
I grew up with a super thrifty mother, so thriftiness has always been in my blood. I avoided going into debt during my poor newly married student years and even had fun being thrifty. After having children, I became a SAHM (stay at home mom) since it was more economical for our situation at the time. Being a SAHM is a pretty thankless job and I found myself feeling depressed after about 10 years of nothing but diapers, cleaning, cooking, and other mundane tasks. I created my blog as a way to document my hard work somewhere that would last longer than a few hours. I took pictures of my clean faucet after using my vinegar trick to get rid of the hard water. I took pictures of my thrifty projects and documented them as a way of feeling some sort of accomplishment. It has been great to get comments, feedback and connect with others.

Now that I am no longer super poor, I still enjoy being thrifty. The difference is that instead of finding cheap ways to decorate my apartment or starter-home, I am decorating my dream home. I still don't have thousands of dollars to throw at a kitchen remodel, so my thrifty decorating skills come in handy.

Other Stuff I Like:
In addition to my thrifty skills and hobbies, I enjoy playing the flute, making home movies, reading, traveling, and browsing Pinterest. I do not enjoy scrap-booking or making crafts and prefer digital creations like home movies and digital photo books. I got a job in high-school (back in the 90s) and saved up all of my money to buy my first computer (an Apple). I was thrilled when the internet became affordable and have embraced the digital world. I earned a degree in Computer Image Specialization and love technology. I don't like clutter and love organization. The perfect day for me would be a day spent organizing something or reading (can you tell I'm an introvert).

Books and TV Shows/Movies:
I LOVE The Big Bang Theory, Zombie shows/movies, BuffyOnce Upon a TimeMerlinStar Trek and other Sci-Fi shows like Firefly & Battlestar Galactica. I also love all of Jane Austin's novels with Pride & Prejudice being my favorite. As an introvert, I relate to Mr. Darcy and love how complicated and true to life Jane Austin's characters are. I love Anne of Green Gables as well as other classics. I love almost any fantasy series involving magic: Harry Potter, Leven Thumps, and Magyk to name a few. I also love reading whatever is popular at the time like The Hunger Games.

So that's me in a nutshell! Thanks for visiting my blog.

  15. Hi Jen,

I was trying to link up under the penny pinching party. I have your button on my blog but it keeps telling me I need to enter a "back link" to this blog. Do you know how to do that?
