How to Create a Fun Playroom for Kids

Thursday, November 14, 2019

A child's playroom is a place for them to use their imagination and explore the world from the comfort of their own home. You want to make it safe, but you also want to make it whimsical and fun. Here are some tips for how to create a fun playroom for kids.
1. Safety First
First and foremost, you want your children to be safe while playing in their playroom. This is especially important if you have younger children. Before you even think about decorating, think safety. Cover all electrical outlets, cover sharp corners, and get rid of any toys with tiny parts that might be a choking hazard. Your child will be spending a lot of time in this room, so it's important that they are safe while they spend time in there.
2. Paint the walls a fun color
This is the playroom. It should be fun and colorful! While most other rooms in your house are probably a neutral color, this is the one room to really have fun with! Ask for your children for their input to help them feel involved. A quick tip- give them the choice of colors you already pre-approved. That way, you know you will like the color. Make sure to use a toxic-free paint.
3. Add wall decals
Your bright walls can be even more exciting if you want to add decals to them. Wall decals are images that you can put up on the wall. The best thing about them is that they are relatively easy to peel off without coming down in a couple days or hours. You can also find a decal for just about anything you want! They make decals of popular cartoon characters, fantasy scenes, flowers, trucks, and anything else you can think of. Just about anyone can put decals up. If you're more artistically inclined, try painting from a stencil onto the wall or even painting freehand.
4. Add fun décor that reminds them of friends and memories
When decorating a child's playroom, you should think of adding fun photo décor. You can print your children’s friends and memories on a blanket. Or, consider displaying them in a different way. Regardless of which option you choose, photo décor is truly a fun way to liven up a room with fun memories.
5. Get plenty of storage
Toys take up a lot of room. You need a variety of different bins and shelves to fit them all. Keep in mind that little people can't reach very high when installing the shelves. When they have plenty of space to put the toys, it's easier to encourage the kids to clean up after themselves. Having the kids pick up their toys when they're done is a great place to start teaching them about cleaning and chores. The playroom can get shut down for cleaning if they can't seem to keep it clean.
6. Include a variety of learning opportunities
Children learn as they play. Help them learn by giving them a variety of educational toys. Depending on the age of the children, you can put the alphabet and small poems up on the wall with decals. You may even put up multiplication math problems. You can also provide a large number of educational toys. Your kids may not even realize they are learning as they play their favorite games or read their favorite poem. Don't forget the bookcase in the playroom.
7. Use old furniture
You don't necessarily need to use brand new furniture in the playroom. If you have end tables and other furniture you're not using, consider painting it a fun color and using it in the playroom. The kids won't know the difference, and it will help you save money. You should also think about using old rugs. New rugs are most likely going to get ruined, so it's best to use something you already have. Instead of rugs, you may want to try a type of flooring that doesn't stain very easily, such as tile.

You want your kids to have a cool place to play and enjoy themselves. Their playroom is one of the rooms in your home that gives you the most creative freedom, so have fun with it. Make it a place that will allow a child's imagination to run wild.
