Free Music

I don't ever make New Year's Resolutions. Instead I always have a goal that I am working on and when I reach that goal I start a new one. I happened to start on an exercise goal in December. I could have waited until the new year, but I was ready in December. It was actually the perfect time since I always eat a lot more during that month. I started by running on my treadmill for around 30 minutes every day. It has been over a month now and I have not lost any weight, but I also haven't gained any weight (I did eat a lot of holiday food). I HATE running, but my exercise of choice (bike) is really hard in this weather. I started out by listening to music on my iPhone and really got into it. I discovered that music + exercise = fun. My only problem is that I started to get tired of listening to the same music after a month.
My thrifty solution:
Check out music CDs at my local library! I found tons of great music and used a new playlist for the first time today. I ran faster and further without even realizing it! That is the power of music. My husband loves to look at the CDs that I check out and laugh at me because I like a little bit of everything (I check out pop, country, punk, rock, classical, and soundtracks to movies). I am going to put together 7 playlists so that I can have a different one for every day of the week. To buy all of these songs from iTunes would cost around $50, so FREE at the library is great.
Here is my first exercise playlist:

Breakaway - Kelly Clarkson
My Paper Heart - The All-American Rejects
Your Star - The All-American Rejects
Best Years of Our Lives - Baha Men, Shrek Soundtrack
Viva La Vida - Coldplay
I'm a Believer - Eddie Murphy, Shrik Soundtrack
Another One Bites the Dust - Queen
Under Pressure - Queen & David Bowie
Everybody Wants to Rule the World - Tears For Fears

I would love for you to post in the comments your favorite work-out music. I am still going to the library every week in search for great work-out music and would love any suggestions.

  2. We often check-out movies, but I hadn't thought of CD's - great idea! Love that you have Tears for Fears. I went to that concert the first time around - before they were considered retro! Hope you're having a great week! -diane

  4. i don't have anything to link up, but i just did a post about the music that makes me want to move/dance/exercise. it's a total departure from my normal self, being that it's full of rap and r&b. can't deny those beats, tho!

  5. Hi and thanks so much for the linky party! Love the info on music downloads! My daughter and I only paid $0.99 to download Taylor Swift's newest album a couple months ago right when it came out! We were so happy about that find :)

  6. Isn't the library an amazing place?! I don't think that most people take advantage of its resources enough.

As for one of my favorite workout songs- 'Survivor' by Destiny's Child. To me, nothing says, "don't quit, you can do this!" more :).

  7. I like getting any music from library before I spend money to own it. If you only like 1 or 2 tracks it is not worth buying an entire CD or MP3.
Our library also has books on MP3s, downloadable from a disc or directly offline so you don't have to leave the house to get them.
There are great mysteries and romances to hear as you pedal, inspirational biographies and weight loss advice to imitate as you vacuum, and any other genre you want.
As long as you don't sell the things you download it is legal. Books downloaded offline often have a code in them so they expire after a week or 2 and become unuseable but all you have to do is check it out again.

  9. I don't jog anymore what with the pregnancy and all but when I did exercise I used to rent books on CD from the library. It's fun because you can sort of get lost in the story and not realize what you're doing. I've even jogged right past my house before wanting to finish the chapter. Oh man - I miss jogging.
