Solution for TOO MUCH HALLOWEEN CANDY!

Monday, October 5, 2009

Every year my kids get tons of Halloween candy.
Every year I try to bribe them to get rid of some by offering them money.
Every year they eat way too much and decide to keep most of it and eat it all week and month long creating cavities and hyperactivity. This year I have found the perfect solution! Instead of dreading Halloween I am actually pretty excited thanks to one charming blog.

I just discovered one charming blog this week and LOVE all of her ideas.

Halloween Night: The Great Pumpkin

What you do is you take your kids out Trick-Or-Treating, come home and let them eat as much candy as they want. They keep all of the non-candy items and then they willingly put the rest of their candy in their bag and leave it out for The Great Pumpkin. The Great Pumpkin (Daddy) takes all of the candy to work to share and leaves a present for each kid. Isn't this brilliant!? I think I will watch the Great Pumpkin episode of Charlie Brown with my kids the night before Halloween to get them excited.

So now I have a month to find the perfect Great Pumpkin gifts.

  4. Love your idea. I take some of there favorites and save them for Christmas. The shelf life on the candy is months so it's still good. The kids don't know the difference, and I save money.

  5. My brother/sister-in-law has been doing this for several years with my nieces and it works great. Sometimes they let them pick out 2 or 3 pieces to keep for a treat later in the week, but the rest goes to Great Pumpkin.
