Treasures for Tots has a great tutorial for these adorable headbands.

Domestically Yours made this fabric covered magnet board.

Confessions of a Freegifter made these mini microwaveable rice bags. She puts them in her kid's pockets to keep their hands warm while they wait for the bus in the morning. I thought this was a brilliant idea.

18th Penny Pinching Party

Thank you to everyone who participated in my Penny Pinching Party last week. Here are some of my favorites:

Who doesn't have one of these old glider rocking chairs or know someone with one? You can often find them at yard sales and thrift stores if you don't already own one. I just LOVE what Keeping it Simple did with hers!

Before:

After:

She also posted a tutorial on how to transform an adult tie into a child's tie.
I Refuse to Recede is a blog by a man trying to be thrifty. In a blog world filled with women, it is refreshing to get a man's perspective on thrifty living. He is into ties and scored a ton for 38 cents each and will be doing a Tuesday Tie Trivia about each of his ties every week.

Fun to Craft posted a tutorial on how to make a Valentine Burlap Wreath. The ribbon and decoration can be switched out for other holidays too!

Taija's took this frame:
and turned it into this frame:

Just Devine Style posted some very cute Valentine gift card holders. Just go to her blog to print them out and make them for free!

I LOVE these family blocks that Chris, Erin and Jayce made! This is a toy that I wouldn't want my kids to put away.

FREE FRIDAY DEALS * January 15th, 2010

Hi and welcome to this weeks Free Friday. Sometimes it's fun to get something for FREE. No shipping, catches or coupons needed. There are tons of things you can get for free or very cheap with coupons, but I don't list those here. I HATE coupons and rarely use them. I do like some coupons like Bed Bath and Beyond and coupon codes for 20% off the sale price at GAP, etc... I just don't like the 25 cent coupons combined with a sale to get a box of cereal for free. That just takes too much time and drives me crazy. I like to buy in bulk at Costco and the rest I get mostly organic at my local health food store, so I have no need for those types of coupons. So if you are looking for that sort of thing, you won't find it here on my blog.

This weeks Free Friday is pretty much the same as last week. Not many good things to choose from right now (unless you are a coupon-sale hunter). If you find anything else, post a comment and I will add it.

16th Penny Pinching Party

Thank you to everyone who participated in my Penny Pinching Party last week. I am overwhelmed at all of the creativity you have! Here are some of my favorites:
(If I haven't been featuring your links, check to see if you are posting a link back to my party from your post, not just your sidebar.)

Treasures for Tots has tons of creative posts, but this is one of my favorite so far. She used socks for sleeves!

I just love up-cycling (re-purposing something) because it is giving new life to something that otherwise would end up in a land fill. Sometimes I just feel like there is so much STUFF out there, why make more when you can up-cycle. I love what Bird Crafts did with this sweater that was accidentally shrunk.
(You will have to go to her blog to see how she transformed it ;-)

Keeping it Simple posted a tutorial on how to make this Menu Planner. Cooking more often and being organized about planning my dinners is one of my goals for this year, so I had to feature this great idea.

Cloche's are very popular in the blog world right now and I have seen people making them out of lots of different things. Blue Creek Home bought some Ferrero Rocher Chocolates and then used the container to make her cloche. Another great up-cycling project!

Quarry Orchard turned a dictionary into wallpaper. I have been noticing a lot of bloggers using old books and turing them into different things, but this is the most ambitious project yet! I wonder if I did this in my kid's rooms, if they would memorize the dictionary??? Maybe a bathroom would be a good place for a dictionary wall.

Domestically Speaking shows us how to make cute knob hangers like the ones at Pottery Barn Kids.

I love using the online classifieds to find normally very expensive items for a fraction of the price. Craigslist and local classifieds are great when you know exactly what you want and are willing to be patient. Eventually almost anything you want will be posted, but you have to act quick when it is. That is why I love Random Anny . Com's post about her Pier One mirror. She scored this $150 mirror for $20 on craigslist and used some creativity to cover a crack.
